KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style | Kerala style Tapioca fry video recipe commonly known as കപ്പ ഉലര്‍ത്തിയത് in Malayalam is a very simple and common recipe in Kerala.

KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style

Tapioca besides its abundant availability in Kerala and also for its rich benefits, has taken place as one of the very common daily recipe in most of the Kerala houses. This recipe of tapioca fry Kerala style is with garlic and onions.

There is one more version which is simplest and preferred for tea time snack. Simple kappa ularthiyathu without onion and garlic. Kappa with  red chilli tomato chutney or chilli chutney or any spicy non veg curry like nadan podi chicken curry is best combination had often.

Kerala Style Kappa Ulathiyathu Recipe

Kappa ularthiyathu

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 5-6 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1/2 cup shallots crushed
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 cups tapioca cooked
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Heat coconut oil in a pan and crackle mustard seeds. 
  • Let it splutter, then add urad dal split and cumin seeds, red chillies and curry leaves
  • Together add crushed garlic and shallots. Coarsely crush them in mortar pestle and add them
  • fry for a minute until onions are pink.
  • Add turmeric powder and chilli powder to the onions
  • Add cooked tapioca pieces. (Cook tapioca with salt and turmeric powder).
  • Adjust salt and fry for 2 more minutes until slightly fried and serve hot

  3. Together add crushed garlic and shallots. Coarsely crush them in mortar pestle and add them KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style
  4. fry for a minute until onions are pink. KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style
  5. First, Add turmeric powder 
  6. Secondly, add chilli powder to the onions. We have added red chillies. Therefore add little chilli powder accordingly. KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style
  7. Add cooked tapioca pieces. (Cook tapioca with salt and turmeric powder). KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style
  8. Adjust salt and fry for 2 more minutes until slightly fried and while adding salt, remember that we have added earlier while cooking tapioca. KAPPA ULARTHIYATHU -Kerala Style
