Ingredients

  • 2 cups idli rice
  • 1.5 tbsp urad dal
  • 1 cup fried gram
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • Soak Idli rice in water overnight. grind it to a thick paste with very little water
  • Soak urad dal in water for 30 minutes and grind it to a thick paste
  • Powder fried gram to a fine powder, sieve it and keep it ready
  • to the ground idli batter, add salt, chilli powder, cumin seeds, black sesame seeds, fried gram powder, urad dal paste, butter and mix well. batter should be thick
  • now prepare the kitchen press with 5 holes. fill in the batter
  • spread a clean white cloth and make murukkus in it in circular motion from outer ring to the centre inwards. do not make circles more than 2 round.
  • push it onto the back of perforated ladle
  • put in hot oil gently and fry both sides until brown and the sizzle of oil stops.
