How to start a Food blog – Series #2: Choosing a name for your food blog

Earlier, In How to start a Food blog – Series #1: we saw the process overview of starting a food website.

How to start a Food blog - Series #2: Choosing a name for your food blog

Now, that you have decided to become a food blogger, Choosing the name of the food blog (domain) can be very time consuming as we tend to think about a lot of aspects while choosing the name.

Here are 8 attractive ideas that will help you to choose your Food blog name:

#1 whats your plan about your food blogging style

  • Plan well ahead what type of audience demographics you are targeting, eg., south indian, north indian, specific cuisine etc.,
  • what is going to be your style of writing – humorous, straight forward, funny etc.,
  • What is the age group you are targeting – kids recipes, diet plans, mixed cuisines etc.,

Your blog name should reflect your blogging style and should have a connection with the type of the recipes you are posting. for example: A continental style name of the blog will not have connection with the regional recipes in the blog.

#2 Use cookbooks for inspiration

Cookbooks are a great source of inspiration to get that culinary jargons that are used. So if your looking for some funky or professional terms that can be fixed in your website titles, then go for cookbooks. Interesting Terms can be picked up and mix and match of those can cook attractive and creative titles.

#3 Think about sauteing the words used – Alliteration

list down the terms that your interested in and the terms that you come across through all sources. finally try soem creative single word or two word titles or even three word titles that can be creative as well as eye catching.

#4 Abbreviation/your name

above all this, there is something that most of us would love, “Our identity”. When we our creating a space on web and in a plan to develop it wide, then keeping our name in itself can play a role close to our heart. thats how www.jinooskitchen.com came live too.

#5 Browse for similar blogs and its names

ok, In case if you are not satisfied with the names chosen, keep browsing. check for the food blogs and its name, you might not want to copy but you might get a lot of ideas and inspiration from them.

#6 Check domain availability and its look

Then, the crucial part. As and when you chose the name, immediately check for its availability. It is always good to have a name list sorted so that you don’t get disappointed if one is not available.

#7 Thinking it for long term

The name you have chosen has to be visioned as a long term asset. For example, if you are naming a food website exclusively for babies such as babyfoodrecipes or cradlemunch etc., and on a long term, you decide including recipes other than for babies, then the title of your website may go out mismatched. So, plan ahead your vision to make your domain long standing and appropriate.

#8 Ask opinion and finalize

Finally, Ask for the opinion with your family, friends and relatives just to make sure the title chosen sounds interesting and attractive. All set and approved??

thats a great news! You have selected your domain name, so next lets buy the domain and plan our hosting.

Check out the series update everyweek.
