  • 1-2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 medium onion - chopped
  • 1 small tomato - chopped
  • 1 cup snake gourd - finely chopped
  • 1 cup cooked moong dal
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves


  • heat oil in a pan, crackle mustard seeds and drop a spring of curry leaves. let the mustard seeds crackle.
  • chop the onions roughly and add it to pan. fry until it is brownroughly chop tomatoes and add it to the fried onions. saute it for a minute or until slightly mushy.
  • Further, add the finely chopped snake gourd pieces and fry for a minute. to this, add the cooked moong dal.
  • add turmeric powder, salt, chilli powder and asafoetida.
  • Furthermore, add water to bring it to the thin consistency
  • Close and cook until snake gourd is cooked and is mashable. You can also pressure cook to speeden the process.
  • Open and add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
