Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal split
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 large onion - finely chopped
  • 1 large tomato - finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated coconut

Instructions

  • heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds. add urad dal and chana dal to the oil. when it changes colour, add curry leaves and chopped onions. 
  • Saute for 1 minute until onions are pink
  • add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt for frying. fry for 2 minutes until tomatoes are slightly mushy
  • add water and mix well. close and cook until tomatoes are cooked well.
  • open and mix again. add salt for onions and sevai.
  • drop in cooked sevai. mix thoroughly until sevai is well mixed with tomato mixture.
  • sprinkle grated coconut and mix again. enjoy tomato sevai with coconut chutney
