  • 1 cup masoor dal
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1 Green chilly chopped
  • 1 Red chilli chopped
  • 1 large Tomato chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlicchopped
  • 1 spring Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp Corriander leaves chopped
  • 1 tsp Dry methi leaves
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp Fresh unsalted butter
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Jeera powder


  • First cook dal to 3 whistles. Add turmeric and little oil when cooking dal.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil, fresh butter in kadai, splutter mustard seeds, sauté onion,tomato,green chilli, red chilli, curry leaves, garlic.once it cooks well, add jeera powder, salt and cooked dhal..
  • Stir it until the tempering mixes well. Add enough water to this as the cooked dal drinks more water!
  • Now adjust salt, add ghee, dry methi leaves and corriander leaves, mix well and serve hot with rotis!:-)
