Cabbage Dal Pepper Fry
A warm South Indian stir fry with cabbage, chana dal, and freshly ground coconut-pepper masala.

- 2 tbsp chana dal
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 5 garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp + 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 onion - chopped
- 2 cups cabbage - finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper powder
Soak dal in hot water for 10 minutes
Roast pepper, cumin, garlic, curry leaves in oil
Add coconut and grind coarsely
Heat oil, splutter mustard, sauté onion
Add cabbage and salt, fry
Add spice mix and soaked dal with water
Cook covered for 5 minutes
Add pepper powder and serve
