Achinga payar mezhukkupuratti is very common sadhya recipe. here in tamilnadu this recipe of payaru thoran/mezhukkupuratti is made in a little different way. but this one is the actual kerala sadhya mezhukkupuratti  and very tasty recipe that i wanted to share with you all.

step wise recipe of making payaru mezhukkupuratti:

yard long beans is broken lengthwise at this size shown in the pic about 1-1.5 inch long, washed and approximately 2 cups is taken in a pressure cooker.

10-12 shallots are cut into half and added to cooker. along with shallots, slit green chillies, coconut bits, turmeric powder and salt is added.

1 cup water is added to the cooked, mixed well.

close and pressure cook for 3 whistle in simmer-medium flame. i have used 1 litre pressure cooker and the whistle interval is very short.

heat coconut oil in a mud pot or pan, crackle mustard seeds. while it crackles..

roughly crush red chillies, garlic, cumin seeds in a mortar pestle.

add this crushed mixture, curry leaves and fry till raw smell goes off.

add the cooked beans mix and fry in simmer for 5-10 minutes until it shrinks and slightly gets roasted.

serve hot with rice and curry.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups yard long beans broken
  • 10-12 no shallots sliced to half
  • 2 no green chilli slit vertically
  • 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp coconut bits
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 4-5 no red chilli
  • 10-12 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

Instructions

  • yard long beans is broken to 1.5 inch pieces and is taken in a pressure cooker. 
  • shallots, slit green chillies, coconut bits, turmeric powder, salt and 1 cup water is added to the cooker and mixed well.
  • close and pressure cook for 3 whistle in simmer-medium flame.
