Baby foodz – Chicken dal biryani ~ chicken biryani for babies

23/07/2016 By Jinoo Jayakrishnan 1 Comment

Chicken biryani for babies – Chicken Dal biryani is specially made for babies with ghee, dal and chicken with little and mild flavor of biryani spices to suit them. It is very mildly spiced and is suitable for babies of 10 months +
Try this recipe after introducing chicken soup to see if they are allergic to chicken. Consult pd before introducing non veg to baby’s diet. My DS loved the flavor of chicken. Chicken in this dish will be smashed and easy for them to  swallow.

Chicken biryani for babies recipe:

  • Clean the Basmati or normal rice a handful. Clean it in running water a couple of times.
  • Strain and soak in drinking water for 15 min.
  • Meanwhile, in pressure cooker, heat ghee, add the Bay leaf, finely chopped shallots, ginger garlic paste, tomatoes finely chopped, chicken pieces boneless.

Be specific to clean out and chose only boneless pieces. cut them to tiny chunks so that they get mashed easily.

  • Add Turmeric powder ,Garam masala, Chilly powder & Masoor dal. Mix well and add rice, water and salt. Rice water ratio is 1:5. Add less if you feel its high, but keep in mind we are adding water also for the dal and chicken to get mashed.
  • Cook it for 4 whistles in medium flame.Mash it well and take out bay leaves. Make sure chicken pieces are mashed well.

It is suggested by the pediatrician that food should never be pulsed after cooking, So mash them with masher or hands.

Soak the rice and dal for an hour or more if you want to get cooked faster and it will also be helpful for kids to digest them easily.

chicken biryani for babies should be of less spicy and we don’t use any whole spices in it. Only Bay leaves are added and should be discarded after cooking.

Baby foodz - Chicken dal biryani

  • 1/4 cup Basmati rice/normal rice
  • 1 inch Bay leaf
  • 2 tsp Shallots finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 2 piece boneless chicken finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powdder
  • 1/4 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder (a pinch actually will do)
  • 2 tsp masoor dal

Instructions

  • Clean the Basmati or normal rice a handful and soak in water for 15 min.
  • Meanwhile, in pressure cooker, heat ghee, add the Bay leaf, finely chopped shallots, ginger garlic paste, tomatoes finely chopped, chicken pieces boneless, Turmeric ,Garam masala, Chilly powder & Masoor dal.
  • Mix well and add rice, water and salt. Rice water ratio is 1:5
  • Cook it for 4 whistles in medium flame.
  • Mash it well and take out bay leaves. Make sure chicken pieces are mashed well.

Notes

For babies, we would need the rice mashed and cooked well. so go ahead adding 1:5 ratio rice:water. but depending upon the quality of rice, this may vary between 3-5 cup water. If you do not want even tiny chunks, grind the rice coarsely (Just a pulse) and other ingredients before cooking so that everything gets mashed well.
