Hotel Style Rava Upma Recipe ~ Vegetable Rava Upma

10/03/2017 By Jinoo Jayakrishnan 4 Comments

Hotel Style Rava Upma Recipe – how to make hotel style upma. It is made with different  vegetables and Rava/Sooji and is the good choice of quick breakfast/dinner recipe.

Upma is one of the least favored dish at many home but most favored for breakfast in hotels. The reason being the creamy, soft and tasty upma available at the restaurants. We attain that with the ghee and milk and little bit of extra tips and techniques which is explained here.

Little bit of extra care and patience is all that is needed in regular Upma recipe and there we get the tastiest of all upmas 🙂

Hotel Style Rava Upma Pictorial Directions:

  1. Slightly roast the Rava for a couple of minutes or until Rava starts to slightly change its color. Keep it aside.

  2. Heat Ghee+Oil mix in a Nonstick Pan, crackle mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal.

  3. Once dal changes its color, add Curry leaves and finely chopped ginger, finely chopped onions, finely chopped green chilies,, capsicum, peas and fry for a couple of minutes.

  4. Then put in carrots and any other vegetable of your choice. but don’t add too much of vegetables. stick with 3 or maximum 4 vegetable of your choice. I have used peas, capsicum and carrots.
  5. Water to be added is 1:2 ratio. For 1 measure Rava add 2 measure water. So, add water accordingly and add salt. Salt check: Taste the water and it should be slightly on the saltier side.

  6. Close and cook on the medium flame until the vegetables are cooked. Approximately for 4- 5 minutes.

  7. Reduce the flame to low and add the roasted rava. Mix well and again close and cook for a minute.

  8. Open and mix well again. Lastly add little Milk and mix again. Adding milk gives a special taste to the upma. So do not skip this step.
  9. Put in finely chopped coriander leaves and serve Hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
