Ragda recipe | Ragda curry for chaat – simple curry recipe that is used in many of the indian chaat recipes like pani puri, bhel puri, sev puri etc., This can be made with white peas and green peas as well.

Ragda curry

to pressure cook white peas

  • 1 cup white peas soaked overnight
  • 2 nos potatoes chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water

To saute and grind

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 large onion roughly chopped
  • 6-8 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 2 nos green chilli
  • 1 large tomato chopped roughly
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

For making the curry

  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 3/4 tsp chaat masala
  • 3/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 cup water


To Pressure cook White Peas

  • wash and soak the white peas overnight.

  • Drain the water and take it in a pressure cooker along with salt, turmeric powder and water.
  • Mix well and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles
  • Open and mash it slightly

To saute and grind

  • Heat oil in a pan and saute in onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies until onions are slightly browned.
  • add in roughly chopped tomatoes and saute for a min.
  • After a minute, add salt, turmeric powder, water, mix well and cook until the tomatoes are mushy.
  • Cool and grind the onion tomato mixture to a fine paste.

Making the curry

  • Add the prepared paste to the pan
  • Further add cooked peas, chilli powder, chaat masala, garam masala to the same pan.
  • Mix well and add water. Adjust seasoning if required
  • Give it a boil and put off. serve hot or use for the chaat recipes.
